From a recent article I wrote for Dissent Magazine:
Arizona’s controversial anti-immigrant legislation went into effect July 1, and whether you approve of it or not, you can be sure that it makes many criminals happy.
Professional predators often seek out individuals who won’t be believed if they dare to report crimes: those with mental health issues, disabilities, economic difficulties, or other actual or perceived characteristics that isolate or disenfranchise them. But few targets are more tempting to a predator than a person who simply won’t report at all. Hence, immigrant populations are great places to hunt.
Bottom line Roger. If they are in this country legally they would not have to fear the legal process, you know that.
Evan if the “victims” you talk about are not legal citizens, but are utilizing the proper channels in gaining citizenship, again, they need not be afraid.
Your point of view, with all due respect, simply translated would be like saying, “A thug (we will call him “thug #1) breaks into your house and starts tearing the place up and stealing your stuff, your wife is in bed asleep but don’t worry, he will get to her in a minute. Meanwhile another thug (thug #2) breaks in and catches thug #1, would be rapist, just before he crawls on your wife and beats him half to death, takes his wallet and sodomizes him before he has a chance to finish his crime, both thugs flee your house taking nothing and without touching your wife (thank God). The first thug was severely wounded but will not report the assault to the authorities because he is afraid he will be jailed for his crime”. Has thug #1 here become a poor helpless victim or, is he still a criminal that deserves alot more than he got? Why shouldn’t you and your wife be allowed to protect your home and yourselves. Or in this case, why shouldn’t we be allowed to protect our boarders.. My point is this, if they are here ilegally then they themselves are criminals, period. “Live by the sword, die by the sword”.
Anyhow Roger, I am not trying to discredit you, I do respect, as always, your opinion. Just another perspective to think about..Peace brother..
